The Society's Organisers for the
East Anglian Delphinium Championship
At the Royal Norfolk Show
The first progress towards the foundation of a Norfolk Group for the Society took place in September 2007 at Notcutt's Garden Centre, Norwich. The first show appearance was in 2008 at the Royal Norfolk Show in the marquee of the Norfolk & Norwich Horticultural Society. Since then there has been considerable progress, with the establishment in 2010 of the new East Anglian Delphinium Championship at the show. Additionally, the Group now has three officers and three additional committee members and a programme of talks to local societies is being developed. Successful negotiations with the Head Gardener of the Bishop's Palace Garden, Norwich have resulted in an agreement for a Delphinium Border in the Garden. Progress with this development will be recorded in these pages of the web-site.
The Head Gardener is Simon Gaches and we thank him for his agreement to host the Society in the Garden.

Here we see two pictures taken in the Bishop's Garden on 15th April 2010.
On the left is a picture of the herbaceous borders and on the right are members of the Norfolk Group committee with Simon Gaches on the left. This was, of course, a first exploratory visit to discuss arrangements between the two partners to the agreement, they being the Norfolk Group representing the Society and the Head Gardener of the Bishop's Garden.

Over the last two years the Norfolk Group have made impressive strides in bringing to notice their work by making talks visits to local societies and their speakers are listed on our website.

In 2008 Howard Norton (left) and Bill Kirkham were catching them young (left) and they spent a lot of time explaining the finer points of delphinium growing.

On the left the first show in 2008 and on the right a considerable enhancement in 2009.

Finally an exhibit from the Breckland Flower Club in which they incorporated the use of delphiniums. This was not part of our Society's Competition; it formed a section in the Norfolk & Norwich Horticultural Society's marquee. They also provided delphinium classes which were open to all exhibitors.
There will be an additional page for the Norfolk Group which will illustrate the results of the 2010 Competition and also other features of the marquee in which we have the pleasure to be sited as a Society.
